Vapor Sharks win Halloween Tourney

The Plymouth Vapor Sharks heated up the ice on a cold February weekend to capture the Mite B championship of the Motown Cup Tournament in Southgate, MI. Fans enjoyed a great goaltending battle Friday night as the Vapor Sharks edged out the Dearborn Sharks 1-0. On Saturday, the team increased their effort and found their scoring touch to post a 6-2 victory against the Berkley Pohlcats in the morning and a 7-1 victory against the Livonia Blues in the afternoon.
Not even a power outage at the arena could stop the Vapor Sharks on Sunday morning. Once the lights came on, the team turned on their game and won the finals defeating the Dearborn Sharks 5-0. The boys dedicated this tournament win to their teammate Brock West who suffered a broken leg a week earlier in a snowmobile accident. A recuperating, but very happy, Brock was on hand to accept the Motown Cup on behalf of the team!

Mini-Mite Great White Win Tourney

The Plymouth Great White Sharks Mini-Mite team brought home the hardware in capturing the championship of the 6th Annual Thanksgiving Classic at the Taylor Sportsplex. It was Zack Olson's goal at the 8:57 mark of the third period capping a thrilling 4-3 comeback for the mini mite division champs against cross town rival Plymouth Compuware Knights.Although the competition was fierce, as four games were decided by two goals or less, the victory in the final extended the Sharks' unbeaten streak in the tournament to five straight games. The Sharks defeated Woodhaven, Monroe, and the Plymouth Compuware Colts in the preliminary round and faced the Westland Blades in the Semi-Finals before the Finals. All of the Sharks' players played a huge role in the outcome of the tournament and their efforts were impressive both offensively and defensively. On the defensive side, Brendan Olepa was solid in goal for all five victories and he left his best performance for last in making several huge saves in the final game of the championship. Other defensive stalwarts for the Sharks include Joseph Powers, Chad Burton, Shane Theodore, Trenton Griffith, and Andrew Dundas. The offensive firepower was led by Paul Maurer and Noah De Guzman during the five game set. But the big story on offense was the emergence of four first time goal scorers including Nick O'Donohue, Jack Blake, Joseph Powers, and Blake Nowicki. Blake Nowicki was so charged up after scoring his first goal of the season; he came right back two games later and recorded his first career hat trick.  Other timely contributions on both offense and defense came from Carson Grainer, Jack Rumohr, Adam Menzies, and Jack Harris. The Team is coached by Kip Maurer, Doug Menzies, Ed Olepa and Vince Grainer.
